Ebonyi State Compliance with Declaration of Assets, Laudable

The Ag. Chairman of Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), Barrister Yakubu M. Tuktur has lauded the level of compliance of the Ebonyi State government public office holders and civil servants to the declaration of assets. He gave this commendation while addressing the top government officers of the Ebonyi State on the importance of assets declaration by political office holders and public servants.

Barr. Tuktur who was on official tour of the South Eastern States of the country to inspect the Code of Conduct State Offices and monitor the level of compliance to the Code through declaration of assets, revealed that all the government officials including special advisers have duly filled and submitted Assets Declaration forms, “to a very large extent the public office holders and the civil servants have filled and submitted the forms.”

He also confirmed that the declarations made by the Executive Governor, his deputy and some commissioners have already been verified. Declaration of Assets according to him does not end with the submission of forms, as the Bureau through its Investigation and Monitoring department verifies these declarations to make sure that what people declare is what is on ground.

The Ag. Chairman said that the success recorded by the CCB Ebonyi State office was as a result of cooperation received from the state government, he then called on other states to cooperate with the state offices of CCB to make the job of the Bureau easier and reduce the lists of defaulters sent to the Code of Conduct Tribunal for prosecution. The target of the Bureau according to him is to have 100% compliance in all the states.

The State Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Prof. Chigozie Ogbu in his reaction said Ebonyi State is in tune with the efforts of the Federal Government to curb the cankerworm of corruption in the country. He pledged the support  and cooperation of Ebonyi State government to ensure that CCB achieves 100% compliance in the state in the near future. He however advised the Bureau to intensify efforts in the area of public enlightenment to educate people on the importance of declaration of assets.
