Sullivan Gives Public Servants Ultimatum to Declare Assets
The Executive Governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Iheanacho Chime has given the Civil Servants in the State till 31st of December, 2009 to declare their assets or forfeit their salary.He made this declaration while receiving the Ag. Chairman, Code of Conduct Bureau, Barr. Yakubu M. Tuktur who paid him a courtesy call in his office.
The Ag. Chairman along with the Director Admin & Supply, Mallam Ibrahim T. Adamu with two other Staff of the Bureau were on official tour of the South East to monitor the level of compliance with Assets Declaration by Public Officers as enshrined in part 1paragrah 3, of the Third Schedule to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Barr. Tuktur said he was in Enugu State Government House to seek the cooperation and support of the Executive Governor to make sure that Political office holders in the state declare their assets and liabilities on assumption of office and at end of their tenure while the Public servants are to declare their assets on assumption of office and subsequently every four years . Failure to make such declarations as at when due according to him amounts to contravention of the Code of Conduct and the Tribunal Law.
The priority of the Bureau, Barr. Tuktur said is to create the awareness and enlighten the populace on the importance of Declaration of Assets. However sanctions will be melted out to defaulters.
In his response, the Enugu State Governor, said apart from given the public servants in the state till 31st December to collect, fill and submit Assets Declaration forms, he would also make sure that the filling of the forms is repeated every four years.
